Jackfruit Flour (Chakka chola podichatu)
Jackfruit is readily available in Kerala during the summer season. Jackfruit flour made from matured jackfruits can be used for the preparation of various dishes.
Jackfruit is the biggest fruit which has a thorny projection on the outside and an intensely sweet and delicious soft flesh inside. Flour prepared from matured jackfruit has an yellowish white colour. This can be used as an essential ingredient in many of the dishes like puttu, chapati, kumbil appam, upma, porridge etc. Matured jackfruit flour can be used as an ingredient in many of the curries for a thick gravy. Puttu prepared with a mixture of rice flour and jackfruit flour has a unique taste. Jackfruit flour can be used along with wheat flour for making soft chapatis. It also can be used to make soup and can be included as a natural tastemaker in many of the meat dishes. Moreover, the nutritious fibre content in this flour can have several health benefits.
