Dates are a sweet nutritious fruit with an oval cylindrical shape. It is a known to be a rich source of nutrients, sugar, carbohydrates and pharmaceutical secondary metabolites.
Depending on the cultivated variety, ripe dates has different colours ranging from bright red to bright yellow. Dates are grown on palm trees, which has its origin on the banks of Nile and Euphrates rivers. Nowadays dates palms are extensively grown on warmer climatic conditions across different continents for its delicious fruits. Soft, semi-dry and dried varieties of dates are available in the market. Traditionally in Islamic culture, dates and yogurt or milk are the first foods consumed for iftars during a Ramadan season.
