Jathikka Chutney - Homemade Nutmeg Fruit Chutney, Jathikka Chammanthi
Jathikka Chammanthi or Nutmeg fruit chutney is one of a specially
delicious and healthy recipe which can be served with rice porridge,
rice or Rotis. Top-quality fresh nutmegs are handpicked in making this
recipe. The yellow coloured fleshy outer portion of Nutmeg is the main
ingredient in this chutney. Unlike dosa chutney’s which is smooth and
fluidy, these coarsely grinded nutmeg chutney is an apt side dish for
Biriyani or plain rice.
The outer fleshy or pericarp of Nutmeg is used to make variety
of dishes like jam, cake or is finely sliced, cooked with sugar, and
crystallised to make fragrant candy's. In the southern region of India,
it's even used to make juice, pickles and chutney. Along with fresh
nutmeg fruit, the ingredients used are garlic, chilly powder, turmeric
powder, asafoetida, fenugreek, vinegar, coconut oil, salt and sugar.
